About This Game

Pokemon Land (hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Land is a fan-made ROM hack of the Game Boy title Pokemon Red. It is not an official release. The game is set in the Land Region, a new area designed by the hacker, and retains the original Generation I visual style and tile-based graphics.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a new selection of starter Pokemon, typically including Pikachu, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff. The difficulty is generally considered low and faithful to the original Red's level curve, making it accessible rather than a challenge-focused hack. It does not implement modern mechanics like the Physical/Special split or the Fairy type, staying true to the Generation I engine with its original bugs and limitations, such as the Psychic-type dominance and certain move inaccuracies.

Key Features:

  • A completely new Land Region with redesigned towns, routes, and dungeons to explore.
  • An altered Pokedex featuring 151 different Pokemon, though many are rearranged from their original locations.
  • A unique post-game area called Mt. Fire, which serves as an additional challenge after the main storyline.

The hack is a straightforward modification that provides a new map and Pokemon placements without overhauling the core mechanics of the base game.
