Pokemon Tower Defense 2 Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Tower Defense 2 is not a ROM hack or an official Nintendo release; it is a fan-made Flash game created by Sam and Dan Games. It is a direct sequel to the original Pokemon Tower Defense and operates entirely within the Adobe Flash Player environment. The story continues from the first game, with the player's character and their Pikachu traveling to a new area to stop Team Rocket. The visual style is distinct from the main series, using a top-down, grid-based map for movement and a side-view battle screen reminiscent of early Pokemon games, but with tower defense mechanics layered on top.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay diverges completely from traditional Pokemon RPGs. It is a tower defense game where your Pokemon are stationary "towers" placed on a path to defeat waves of wild Pokemon. You do not choose a starter in the conventional sense; you begin with your Pikachu from the first game and capture new Pokemon by defeating them in waves. Difficulty is structured around the tower defense genre, with levels becoming progressively more challenging and requiring strategic placement and evolution of your Pokemon team. It does not incorporate standard RPG mechanics like the Physical/Special split or day/night cycles, as its systems are built for real-time strategy.

Key Features:

  • Tower Defense Core Loop: Gameplay revolves around placing your Pokemon on a grid to defend against oncoming waves, with each Pokemon having unique attack types, ranges, and evolution paths.
  • Capture and Evolution System: You capture new Pokemon by reducing their HP to zero during a wave, and you can evolve them by spending in-game currency earned from completing levels.
  • Story-Driven Campaign: The game features an original narrative with specific missions and boss fights against Team Rocket admins, providing context for the tower defense scenarios.
As a Flash game, its availability is now dependent on Flash emulators or preserved web archives.
