About This Game

Pokemon Amber Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Amber is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Amber Region, a land with a volcanic theme. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the Generation III games, with some custom maps and character designs.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Charmander, Treecko, and Mudkip. It is known for its increased difficulty, featuring stronger Gym Leaders and wild Pokemon with higher levels, which some players consider suitable for a Nuzlocke challenge. The hack retains the original Generation III mechanics, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split from Generation IV or the Fairy type. It does implement a day and night cycle.

Key Features:

  • A new story involving the Team Magma and Team Aqua villains from Hoenn, now operating in the Amber Region.
  • Access to Pokemon from Generations I, II, and III, with some later-evolution Pokemon like Scizor and Kingdra available in the wild.
  • The inclusion of several post-game areas, including a challenging Battle Tower and an extended quest to catch the legendary Rayquaza.

This hack provides a familiar but more challenging adventure for players seeking a new region on the classic FireRed engine.
