About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Ultra Violet is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Game Boy Advance game Pokemon FireRed. It is set in the standard Kanto region and retains the visual style of its base game, but it is designed as a "completionist" version that allows players to catch all 386 Pokemon available up to Generation III without needing to trade.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack begins with a choice of the three standard Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Its primary mechanical change is the removal of version-exclusive Pokemon and trade evolutions; every species from Generations I, II, and III can be caught in the wild or evolved through level-up or item use within this single game. It does not implement later mechanics like the Physical/Special split or the Fairy type. The difficulty is comparable to the original FireRed, making it accessible rather than a dedicated challenge hack.
Key Features:
- Catch All 386 Pokemon: The game's defining feature is that every Pokemon from the first three generations is obtainable in a single playthrough. This includes normally version-exclusive monsters like Scyther and Pinsir, as well as all legendary Pokemon.
- Removed Trade Evolutions Pokemon that originally required trading, such as Gengar and Alakazam, now evolve via level-up or using specific items like a Link Cable, which can be found in the game world.
- Expanded Wild Encounters: The encounter tables across Kanto have been extensively edited. This allows players to find Pokemon from the Johto and Hoenn dexes in appropriate areas, such as finding Houndour on Cinnabar Island or Bagon in the Seafoam Islands.
Ultra Violet is a straightforward enhancement focused on collection, offering a comprehensive Kanto adventure without the barriers of the original games.
