About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Azure Horizons (beta 1.2) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new region of Azure, a coastal archipelago with a visual style that expands FireRed's tileset to include more tropical and marine environments. The story involves investigating strange weather phenomena and a mysterious new energy source affecting the region.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starters: Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip from Hoenn. It is built on a modified FireRed engine that includes the Physical/Special split from Generation IV and adds the Fairy type. The difficulty is higher than the base game, with gym leaders and major trainers using more strategic teams and held items, making it suitable for players seeking a challenge. It does not include Mega Evolution. A day and night cycle is present.
Key Features:
- An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations I through IV, with many species available earlier in the adventure.
- Quality-of-life improvements including reusable TMs, the ability to use Running Shoes indoors, and an updated movepool for many Pokemon.
- A new post-game area called the Stormfront Isles that becomes accessible after the main story, featuring high-level wild encounters and a bonus boss battle.
As a beta, version 1.2 is mostly complete for the main story but may contain minor graphical glitches and lacks a fully implemented post-game narrative.
