About This Game

Pokemon Azure Horizons (beta 2) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Azure Horizons (Beta 2) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Azuria Region, a coastal archipelago with a distinct visual style that expands the original game's tileset to include new buildings, lush forests, and expansive ocean routes.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starters: Riolu, Gible, and Larvitar, all from later generations. It incorporates the Physical/Special split from Generation IV and includes the Fairy type. The difficulty is elevated compared to the base game, with stronger trainer teams and more complex Gym Leader battles, making it a solid choice for players seeking a challenge. The engine supports a day/night cycle and features updated movepools for many Pokemon.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with eight original Gyms and a custom storyline separate from Kanto's narrative.
  • An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations I through IV, allowing for teams not possible in official GBA titles.
  • Quality-of-life improvements such as reusable TMs, the ability to use Running Shoes indoors, and an updated interface.
As a beta release, players may encounter occasional bugs or incomplete areas, but Beta 2 represents a largely functional and expansive adventure.
