About This Game

Pokemon Chaos Black (fixed) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Chaos Black (fixed) is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is a modified version of the earlier, notoriously buggy hack Pokemon Chaos Black, with the "fixed" designation indicating attempts to correct its most severe glitches. The game is set in the Kanto region but features a drastically altered storyline and roster. Visually, it retains the standard GBA sprite style but populates the world with Pokemon from later generations.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a non-standard selection of starters, including Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip from Hoenn. Its difficulty is considered high and erratic, primarily due to unbalanced enemy teams and the persistent technical issues from its base hack, making it poorly suited for a structured challenge like a Nuzlocke. Mechanically, it runs on the Generation III engine, so it lacks the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, and Mega Evolution. Its key "mechanical" change is the wholesale replacement of wild and trainer Pokemon with those from Generations II, III, and IV, often in illogical locations.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Pokedex: The game's primary draw is the inclusion of Pokemon from Generations II, III, and IV within the Kanto region, though their implementation is haphazard.
  • Altered Story and Enemies: The narrative and trainer teams are changed, with Gym Leaders and the Elite Four using unexpected, high-level teams featuring later-generation Pokemon.
  • Bug Fixes Over Original: The "fixed" version attempts to address game-breaking crashes and progression errors found in the original Chaos Black, though many graphical glitches and balance issues remain.

This hack is primarily known as a historical curiosity from an era of less-polished modifications, offering a chaotic and unstable alternative to standard Kanto journeys.
