About This Game

Pokemon Chrome (V0.1) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Chrome (V0.1) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Chrome Region, a land undergoing rapid technological advancement. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the Generation III era, with some custom maps and character designs.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the standard three-starter choice from the original FireRed: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The difficulty is generally standard, comparable to the base game, and is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it runs on the pre-Physical/Special split engine of Generation III, meaning move categories are still determined by type. It does not include the Fairy type, Mega Evolution, or a functional day/night cycle. The core battle and progression systems are unchanged from FireRed.

Key Features:

  • A new storyline set in the Chrome Region, involving corporate espionage and technological threats.
  • Several new areas and dungeons to explore, including a high-tech city and a corrupted digital zone.
  • As a version 0.1 release, the game is an early demo and is incomplete, ending after a few gyms with noticeable bugs and placeholder text in some areas.
This early build shows the framework for a new adventure but is primarily a proof-of-concept demo.
