About This Game

Pokemon Cyan (beta 2) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Cyan (Beta 2) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. The game is set in the new Verdant Region, a landmass distinct from Kanto, featuring original towns, routes, and a custom visual style that expands the color palette and tile sets of the base game.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the standard three-starter choice from the original games, but the specific Pokemon available can vary by version or patch; common choices include Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. It is built on the Generation III engine, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split from Generation IV or the Fairy type. The difficulty is generally comparable to official titles, not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Key mechanical changes from the base FireRed include the addition of a day and night cycle, which affects wild Pokemon encounters and certain events.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with original Gym Leaders, a rival, and a custom storyline.
  • The implementation of a day/night system, adding time-based events to the world.
  • An expanded Pokedex that includes Pokemon from Generations I, II, and III, available within the new region's habitats.
As a beta release, players may encounter unfinished areas or scripting bugs that are typical of early development builds.
