About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Dark Rising (Beta 2) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Torren Region and features a darker, more apocalyptic storyline involving a world-ending threat. Visually, it uses the standard Generation 3 engine with custom sprite work for new characters and some Pokémon.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starter Pokémon: Darumaka, Shinx, or Riolu, all from later generations. It is notoriously difficult, with high-leveled opponents, complex dungeons, and mandatory battles that make it unsuitable for a casual or Nuzlocke run. It retains the original FireRed mechanics, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. A day/night cycle is not present.
Key Features:
- A large roster of Pokémon spanning from Generations 1 through 5, available early in the adventure.
- A lengthy, story-driven campaign with a large cast of original rivals and Gym Leaders.
