About This Game

Pokemon Hyetology (beta 1.1) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Hyetology (Beta 1.1) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. The game is set in the new Hyetos Region, a land defined by its heavy rainfall and water-themed geography. Visually, it retains the standard GBA sprite style of FireRed but introduces new maps, characters, and a predominantly blue and green color palette to emphasize its aquatic setting.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three water-type starters: Totodile, Mudkip, and Piplup, breaking from the traditional Fire/Water/Grass triangle. Its difficulty is notably higher than the base game, featuring stronger trainer AI and adjusted level curves, making it a challenging but fair experience that is not specifically designed for Nuzlocke runs. Mechanically, it is built on the pre-Physical/Special split engine of FireRed, meaning move categories are still determined by type. It does not include the Fairy type, Mega Evolution, or a day/night cycle.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region, Hyetos, with towns, routes, and gyms themed around rain, rivers, and oceans.
  • An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations I through IV, with a heavy emphasis on water-types and other species fitting the damp environment.
  • New story events and characters, including a unique rival and Gym Leaders who specialize in weather-based or aquatic battle strategies.
As a beta, the game may contain unfinished areas, minor graphical glitches, and the potential for soft-locking bugs, which is common for works in progress.
