About This Game

Pokemon Iron (beta 2.1) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Iron (Beta 2.1) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. The game is set in the new Iron Region, a land with a focus on industrial themes and technological advancement. Visually, it uses the standard GBA engine with custom tiles, sprites, and maps to create a distinct, often metallic and urban, aesthetic for its towns and routes.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Riolu, Shinx, and Gible, all from later generations. It is designed with a higher difficulty curve than the base game, featuring stronger Gym Leaders and trainers with more strategic teams, making it a popular choice for players seeking a challenge. Mechanically, it incorporates the Physical/Special split from Generation IV and includes the Fairy type. It does not feature Mega Evolution or a persistent day/night cycle.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with original cities like Steelport City and Cog Town, alongside a new set of Gym Leaders and an evil team.
  • An expanded Pokedex that includes Pokemon from Generations I through IV, allowing for a much wider team-building selection than FireRed.
  • Quality-of-life improvements such as reusable TMs and the ability to use Running Shoes indoors from the start of the adventure.
As a beta, version 2.1 may contain unfinished areas, minor graphical glitches, and the potential for soft-locking bugs, which is common for works in progress.
