About This Game

Pokemon Mega Evo Red & Green Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Mega Evo Red & Green is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is not an official release. The game is set in the familiar Kanto region but with a significant visual overhaul, featuring updated tilesets and sprites that give it a more modern GBA aesthetic compared to the original FireRed.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack's defining mechanic is the inclusion of Mega Evolution for numerous Pokemon, which can be activated during battle. It retains the Physical/Special split from later generations. The starter choices are the classic Kanto trio: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The difficulty is moderately increased with stronger trainer teams and adjusted level curves, but it is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Key mechanical changes include the addition of the Fairy type and a functional day/night cycle.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Mega Evolution Roster: Many Pokemon beyond the official canon receive Mega Evolutions, significantly altering battle strategies.
  • Updated Pokemon Roster: The regional Pokedex includes Pokemon from generations beyond the first, up to Generation VI, integrated into Kanto's routes and encounters.
  • Quality-of-Life Improvements: The hack includes features like reusable TMs, the ability to use Running Shoes indoors, and an updated movepool for better balance.
The game offers a refreshed take on Kanto with its expanded mechanics and roster.
