About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Never Black & White (beta 1) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is an ambitious, incomplete project that attempts to recreate the entire Unova region and story from the Nintendo DS games Pokemon Black & White on the older GBA hardware. The visual style uses FireRed's engine, so sprites and tiles are from the Generation III era, creating a distinct retro interpretation of Unova.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game follows the core Unova storyline where you choose one of the original starters: Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott. As a beta, its difficulty is inconsistent and not specifically designed for challenges like Nuzlocke runs due to potential instability. It implements the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, but does not include the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. Key mechanics from Black & White, such as reusable TMs and triple/rotation battles, are present, though they may not function perfectly in the beta state.
Key Features:
- Full Unova Region Conversion: The hack maps the entire Unova region, including major locations like Castelia City, Driftveil City, and the Pokemon League, into the GBA engine.
- Original Unova Story and Characters: It features the narrative involving Team Plasma, rivals Cheren and Bianca, and Gym Leaders like Elesa and Drayden, all with custom dialogue and events.
- Expanded Unova Pokedex: The game includes all Pokemon from the original Black & White Unova Dex, up to #155 (Genesect), imported and made obtainable within the GBA framework.
As an early beta, the game is known to contain numerous bugs, crashes, and incomplete events, making it more of a historical curiosity than a polished experience.
