About This Game

Pokemon Pinball : Ruby & Sapphire Box Art

Introduction: This is an official Nintendo and The Pokémon Company spin-off title for the Game Boy Advance, released in 2003. It is a pinball game themed around the Hoenn region from Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. The visual style uses detailed, colorful sprites for the Pokémon and pinball table elements, presented in a top-down view.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game does not feature traditional RPG mechanics like starter choices, battles, or a difficulty curve. Instead, gameplay revolves around two pinball tables: the Ruby Field and the Sapphire Field. The core loop involves hitting Pokémon with the ball to "catch" them by completing their specific mini-games, which fills the regional Pokédex. Key mechanics include a rumble feature (via a cartridge battery), multi-ball modes, and bonus stages. It is not an RPG, so concepts like Nuzlocke runs, the Physical/Special split, or Mega Evolution do not apply.

Key Features:

  • Two distinct pinball tables, each with unique layouts, Pokémon encounters, and bonus stages themed around Hoenn locations like Mt. Chimney and Team Magma/Aqua hideouts.
  • A complete Hoenn Pokédex of 200 Pokémon to catch by fulfilling specific table objectives, which was the game's primary progression system.
  • The inclusion of a Rumble Motor built into the Game Boy Advance cartridge, providing haptic feedback when the ball hits certain bumpers or targets.
This title served as a digital companion to the main series Hoenn games, offering a different way to engage with the new Pokémon roster.
