About This Game

Pokemon Rocket Strike Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Rocket Strike is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. The game is set in the Kanto region, but the story is completely rewritten to follow a new protagonist who joins Team Rocket as a low-level grunt. The visual style uses the standard FireRed engine with some custom sprites for characters and a darker color palette to match the criminal theme.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of three starter Pokemon: Ekans, Koffing, or Meowth, all classic Team Rocket-associated species. The difficulty is notably higher than the base game, with tougher trainer battles and a level curve that requires more grinding, making it less Nuzlocke-friendly for casual players. It retains the original FireRed mechanics, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. A key mechanical change is the removal of traditional Gyms; instead, you complete missions for Team Rocket to progress.

Key Features:

  • Team Rocket Storyline: You play as a member of Team Rocket, carrying out thefts, sabotage, and other criminal operations against the standard Kanto establishment.
  • Altered Progression: The game replaces the eight Gym Badge quest with a mission-based structure, where you earn promotions within the criminal organization.
  • Limited Pokemon Availability: Your roster is primarily restricted to Pokemon commonly used by Team Rocket, such as Zubat, Raticate, and Weezing, with only rare opportunities to catch other species.
This hack offers a distinct, morally gray perspective on the Kanto region for players seeking a different kind of challenge.
