About This Game

Pokemon Scorched Earth Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Scorched Earth is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Scorched Earth Region, a harsh, desert-dominated landscape where water is scarce and survival is a central theme. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the Generation III engine, but with a distinct palette emphasizing arid browns, oranges, and yellows to match the setting.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Torchic, Cyndaquil, and Charmander, all Fire-types, which is a deliberate thematic choice for the region. The difficulty is notably higher than the official games, with tougher trainer AI, higher-level wild Pokemon, and limited healing opportunities, making it a challenging but not explicitly Nuzlocke-mandated experience. It retains the original FireRed mechanics, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. A day/night cycle is not present.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region and story focused on survival in a drought-stricken land, with a narrative that diverges significantly from the Kanto journey.
  • An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations I through III, with a heavy emphasis on Fire, Ground, and Rock-types, though other types are still available.
  • Increased difficulty curve with stronger Gym Leaders and rival battles, requiring more strategic team building and resource management throughout the adventure.
The hack is a complete, standalone adventure that repurposes the GBA engine for a uniquely themed challenge.
