About This Game

Pokemon Shiny Gold X Version Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Shiny Gold X Version is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is a modified version of the earlier hack Pokemon Shiny Gold, which itself is a remake of the official Pokemon Gold and Silver games. The game takes place in the Johto region, with the visual style and engine of the Generation III FireRed title, offering updated graphics and color compared to the original Game Boy Color games.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the original Johto starter choices: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Its difficulty is generally similar to the official FireRed and Gold games, making it accessible but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it runs on the Generation III engine, which means it does not include the Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV, nor does it add the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. It does implement a day and night cycle, faithfully recreating the feature from the original Gold and Silver.

Key Features:

  • Complete Johto and Kanto regions, allowing travel to both after the main story, including the post-game battle with Red on Mt. Silver.
  • Expanded Pokemon roster, incorporating many species from Generations I through III into the wild encounters and trainer teams across both regions.
  • Quality-of-life improvements from the base FireRed engine, such as the VS Seeker for rematching trainers and the Running Shoes being usable indoors.

This hack provides a classic Johto adventure with the updated presentation of the Game Boy Advance era.
