Introduction: Pokemon Soft Red is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Game Boy Advance title Pokemon FireRed. It is not an official Nintendo product. The hack takes place in the familiar Kanto region but presents a significantly altered narrative and world state. Visually, it retains the standard FireRed engine and sprite work.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice between three standard Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Its primary mechanical distinction is a high difficulty curve, designed to be challenging for veteran players. It does not implement the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, nor does it add the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. The core battle mechanics remain Generation III. The increased difficulty, involving stronger and smarter opponent teams, makes it a popular choice for players seeking a Nuzlocke challenge.
