About This Game

Pokemon Turquoise (beta 1.2) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Turquoise (beta 1.2) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the Turquoise Region, a new landmass separate from Kanto. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the Generation III games, with some custom maps and character designs for its new region.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. It retains the original Generation III battle mechanics, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV. The difficulty is generally standard, comparable to the official FireRed, and is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Key mechanical changes from the base game are limited; it does not add the Fairy type, Mega Evolution, or a day/night cycle, focusing instead on providing a new region to explore with the classic Gen III engine.

Key Features:

  • A completely new Turquoise Region with its own towns, routes, and Gym Leaders to challenge.
  • The inclusion of all 386 Pokemon from Generations I through III, allowing for a diverse regional Pokedex.
  • As a beta, the game is known to have several bugs and incomplete areas, which can include scripting errors, graphical glitches, and potentially soft-locking progression.
This hack provides a traditional Pokemon adventure in a new setting, though players should be prepared for the instability common in unfinished projects.
