About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Vortex (Beta 3) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new Vortex Region, a land threatened by the mysterious Team Vortex. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the third generation, with some custom maps and character designs.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starters: Charmander, Treecko, and Piplup, mixing generations. Its difficulty is elevated compared to the base game, featuring stronger Gym Leaders and wild Pokemon, but it is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. It retains the original FireRed engine, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. A day and night cycle is not present.
Key Features:
- A completely new region with a custom storyline involving Team Vortex and a legendary Pokemon known as Vortexeon.
- An expanded Pokedex that includes Pokemon from Generations I through IV, allowing for a wider team-building pool than standard FireRed.
- The inclusion of several post-Gen III mechanics, such as the VS. Seeker for trainer rematches and the ability to use Running Shoes indoors.
As a beta, the game may contain unfinished areas, scripting errors, or progression bugs that can halt play.
