About This Game

Pokemon 2004 Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon 2004" is a bootleg Game Boy Color cartridge, not an official Nintendo release. It is a poorly translated and modified version of the Japanese game Keitai Denjuu Telefang 2, a monster-collecting RPG unrelated to Pokemon. The story involves using a "Mobile Shell" to summon creatures called Denjuu in a world connected by telephone lines, presented with graphics similar to early Pokemon titles.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game does not feature traditional Pokemon starters. Instead, players begin with a partner Denjuu like Shigeki or Kuriputo. The mechanics are based on the Telefang system, where you call monsters to battle using a phone number system. There is no Physical/Special split, Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. The difficulty is erratic due to poor translation and glitches, making it unsuitable for structured challenges like a Nuzlocke. Key mechanics are often broken or incomprehensible in the English bootleg version.

Key Features:

  • Bootleg Translation: The game is infamous for its garbled, humorous English text, with phrases like "The wild Pikachu is appeared!" and items named "Drug" for healing items.
  • Telephone-Based Summoning: The core mechanic involves dialing numbers to call specific Denjuu for assistance, a system unique to the original Telefang games.
  • Glitches and Instability: As a bootleg, the game is prone to freezing, save file corruption, and graphical errors, which are a significant part of its notoriety.
The game is a curious piece of bootleg history but offers a broken and non-Pokemon experience.
