About This Game

Pokemon Trading Card Game 2 (english translation) Box Art

Introduction: This is an official Japan-exclusive sequel to the original Game Boy Color Pokémon Trading Card Game, released in 2001. An English fan translation patch exists to make it playable. The story is set in the GR Island region, a new area for card battling, and it retains the top-down sprite-based visual style of its predecessor.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game is a digital adaptation of the Pokémon TCG. You do not choose a starter Pokémon; instead, you select one of three starter decks: Psychic, Water, or Lightning. The core gameplay involves building a 60-card deck and battling Club Masters and Grand Masters. The difficulty is higher than the first game, with opponents using more advanced strategies and powerful cards like Dark Pokémon and new Pokémon-ex. It is not a traditional RPG, so concepts like Nuzlocke runs or the Physical/Special split do not apply.

Key Features:

  • An entirely new story campaign on GR Island with over 200 new cards from the Neo Genesis and Neo Discovery expansions.
  • Introduction of Dark Pokémon and Pokémon-ex cards, which add new strategic layers and powerful effects to deck building.
  • An improved Challenge Hall with more difficult AI opponents and a final boss battle against the mysterious GR's Gary.

The English translation patch is considered complete and functional, allowing full access to this previously Japan-only sequel.
