About This Game

Pokemon Bronze Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon Bronze" is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Crystal for the Game Boy Color. It is not an official Nintendo release. The game is set in the Johto region, but features a completely rewritten story and dialogue. Visually, it retains the classic 8-bit style and color palette of the original Pokemon Crystal.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers the standard Johto starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Its difficulty is generally on par with the original Crystal, making it accessible for a standard playthrough but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it does not include the Physical/Special split, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution, as it is built on the Generation II engine. It does retain the day/night cycle and weekly event system from its base game.

Key Features:

  • A new, original narrative that replaces the story of Team Rocket with a different antagonist group and plot.
  • Completely rewritten dialogue for all characters, including gym leaders and key NPCs, providing a fresh experience in a familiar region.
  • An expanded Pokedex that includes all 251 Pokemon from Generations I and II, with some alterations to encounter locations and availability.
The hack is a complete story overhaul that recontextualizes the Johto journey while maintaining the core mechanics of its era.
