About This Game

Pokemon Stadium (Spain) Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon Stadium (Spain)" is not an official game, a ROM hack, or a standard bootleg. It is a mislabeled or counterfeit cartridge, typically a pirated copy of the official Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64, which was released in Spain. The game is a 3D battle simulator set in the Pokemon Stadium arena, with no traditional region to explore. The visual style uses polygonal models for Pokemon and environments, a significant departure from the handheld games of the time.

Gameplay & Mechanics: As a battle simulator, there are no starter Pokemon choices or a story campaign to nuzlocke. The core gameplay revolves around constructing teams from the first 151 Pokemon (or up to 251 in Pokemon Stadium 2) and battling in various cup tournaments. The difficulty is entirely dependent on the opponent's AI and your team composition. It uses the Generation I battle mechanics, meaning no physical/special split, no held items, and status conditions like Sleep lasting indefinitely until cured. A key feature is the ability to transfer Pokemon from the Game Boy Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow games via the Transfer Pak to use your own teams.

Key Features:

  • Rental Pokemon System: Players can use pre-set rental Pokemon teams if they do not have a Game Boy game to transfer from, though these teams are often poorly optimized.
  • Minigame Collection: The game includes nine multiplayer-focused minigames, such as Clefairy Says and Run, Rattata, Run, which became a popular party mode.
  • Gym Leader Castle: This mode allows players to battle the eight Kanto Gym Leaders and the Elite Four using rental Pokemon, serving as the closest experience to a single-player campaign.

If you have a cartridge labeled this way, it is almost certainly a pirated copy of the official Spanish release of Pokemon Stadium.
