About This Game

Pokemon Stadium (Germany) Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon Stadium (Germany)" is the official German-language release of the Nintendo 64 title Pokemon Stadium. It is not a ROM hack or bootleg. The game is a 3D battling simulator set in the Pokemon Stadium arena, with no traditional overworld region to explore. The visual style is defined by polygonal 3D models of all 151 original Pokemon and detailed, arena-based battle environments.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay revolves around structured tournament battles and a rental system. There are no starter Pokemon in the traditional sense; players build teams from a pool of 151 rental Pokemon with pre-set movesets or by connecting a Game Boy cartridge via the Transfer Pak to use their own. The difficulty is high in the later cups, demanding strategic team composition and type matchups. It does not include mechanics like a day/night cycle or the Physical/Special split, as it is a Gen I companion title focused purely on battle mechanics.

Key Features:

  • Rental Pokemon and GB Tower: Players can battle using rental Pokemon or, by using the Transfer Pak, compete with their own teams from Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow in the GB Tower, which emulates the Game Boy battle system.
  • Stadium Cup Tournaments: The main mode features four progressively difficult cups (Pika, Petit, Poké, Master), each with unique rules restricting Pokemon by level or evolutionary stage.
  • Minigame Collection: The game includes nine multiplayer-focused minigames, such as Clefairy Says and Ekans' Hoop Hurl, which became a major social feature of the title.
The German release is a direct localization of the original, with no gameplay alterations from the English or Japanese versions.
