About This Game

Pokemon Green : English Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon Green: English" is a fan-made translation patch for the official Japanese release of Pokemon Green Version for the original Game Boy. It is not a ROM hack with new content, but a localization project. The game is set in the Kanto region and uses the same monochrome sprite style and world map as the original Japanese Green and international Blue versions.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The gameplay is identical to the base Japanese game. The player chooses one of three starter Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The difficulty and mechanics are standard for Generation I, meaning no physical/special split, no Fairy type, and the presence of numerous glitches like the MissingNo. exploit. The translation aims to make the original Japanese script accessible, but it does not alter the core mechanics, balance, or the infamous difficulty spike at the Elite Four.

Key Features:

  • Faithful Translation: The primary feature is an English translation of the original Japanese script, including item, move, and Pokemon names that differ from the international Red/Blue releases.
  • Original Enemy Sprites: This version retains the unique enemy sprites from Japanese Green, which are different from those in the international Red and Blue versions. For example, Charizard and Mew have distinct designs.
  • Historical Accuracy: Playing this translation provides the experience closest to the original 1996 Japanese release, showcasing the game's initial state before revisions for other markets.
This translation patch allows players to experience the foundational Kanto adventure in its earliest commercial form.
