About This Game

Pokemon Red 151 Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Red 151 is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is not a Game Boy title, but is built on the GBA engine. The hack returns players to the Kanto region with the primary goal of completing the original Pokedex of 151 species. The visual style remains faithful to the base FireRed game.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with the standard Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Its core design is built around accessibility and completion, making it less difficult than challenge-focused hacks and suitable for a relaxed playthrough. It retains the mechanics of Generation III, meaning there is no Physical/Special split for moves, no Fairy type, and no Mega Evolution. The day/night cycle from later games is not present.

Key Features:

  • Complete First Generation Dex: All 151 Pokemon from the original games are obtainable in a single playthrough without trading, including Mew through an in-game event.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: The hack incorporates features like reusable TMs, the Running Shoes being usable indoors, and the removal of trade-based evolutions for Pokemon like Gengar and Alakazam.
  • Faithful Kanto Experience: The story, gym leaders, and region layout follow the original journey, but with the updated engine and sprites of FireRed, along with the added convenience of completing the Pokedex.
The hack is a straightforward enhancement of FireRed for players seeking a definitive, self-contained Kanto adventure.
