About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Crystal World is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Crystal for the Game Boy Color. It is not a new region hack but an enhancement hack that modifies the existing Johto and Kanto regions. The visual style remains faithful to the original GBC aesthetic but with significant expansions to available content.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the original starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Its primary mechanical change is the massive expansion of the Pokedex, incorporating Pokemon from Generations I, II, and III, making over 380 species catchable in the wild. This fundamentally alters team-building and exploration. The difficulty is increased, with higher-leveled and more diverse trainer teams, making it less forgiving for a casual Nuzlocke run. It does not implement the Physical/Special split or add the Fairy type, staying true to the Gen II engine, but it does utilize the day/night cycle from the base game.
Key Features:
- Massively Expanded Pokedex: The core feature is the inclusion of Pokemon from Generations I through III, all obtainable without trading. This includes evolutions and pre-evolutions introduced in later generations, like Steelix and Blissey.
- Increased Difficulty and Rebalanced Encounters: Wild Pokemon and trainer rosters are significantly reworked, featuring higher levels and more type variety. Gym Leaders and the Elite Four pose a greater challenge with improved teams.
- Quality-of-Life Tweaks and New Events: Changes include the ability to obtain all three Johto starters, the reuse of certain key items, and modified in-game events to accommodate the new Pokemon. Some item locations and wild encounter tables are completely redesigned.
