About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Cute is a ROM hack of the original Pokémon Yellow Version for the Game Boy. It is not an official title. The hack retains the Kanto region setting and story, where the player follows the journey of Red. Its primary visual change is a complete graphical overhaul to feature "cute" or "chibi" style sprites for all Pokémon and many characters, running on the original Game Boy Color hardware.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The player's starter is, as in Yellow, a Pikachu that follows them outside its Poké Ball. The game does not introduce the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, or a day/night cycle, as it is built on the Generation I engine. The difficulty level is largely unchanged from the base game, though the altered Pokémon availability can affect team-building. It is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. The core mechanical change is the complete replacement of the original 151 Pokémon with different species, primarily from later generations, all redesigned with the hack's signature cute aesthetic.
Key Features:
- Complete Visual Re-skin: Every Pokémon sprite, from Bulbasaur to Mewtwo, is replaced with a custom, cute-style sprite, and many trainer sprites are similarly altered to match this theme.
- Altered Pokémon Roster: While the Kanto Pokédex structure remains, the Pokémon encountered in the wild and given by NPCs are different, featuring a mix of species from various generations that fit the "cute" theme.
- Faithful Yellow Framework: Beyond the graphics and roster, the game preserves the original Yellow experience, including the rival Blue, the eight Kanto Gyms, and the progression through Silph Co. and the Pokémon League.
