About This Game

Pokemon Dark Energy (beta 4.0) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Dark Energy (Beta 4.0) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance, not the Game Boy Color. It is set in the new Eldina Region and features a visual style consistent with the Generation 3 engine, including updated sprites and tilesets that are darker in tone to match its narrative.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starters: Riolu, Shinx, and Gible, all from later generations. Its difficulty is significantly increased, featuring stronger Gym Leaders and wild Pokemon, making it a challenge for experienced players but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke. It incorporates the Physical/Special split from Generation 4 and includes Pokemon and moves from Generations 4 and 5, though it does not add the Fairy type or Mega Evolution.

Key Features:

  • A completely original Eldina Region with a new story involving the criminal Team Eclipse and the legendary Pokemon Darkrai.
  • An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations 1 through 5, allowing for teams not possible in the official GBA games.
  • Quality-of-life improvements like reusable TMs and the running shoes being usable indoors, which are standard in many modern hacks.

As a beta, the game may contain unfinished areas, scripting bugs, and potential soft-locks, which is common for projects in development.
