About This Game

Pokemon Dreamland (kin hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Dreamland is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon Crystal for the Game Boy Color. It is not an official release. The game takes place in the new Dreamland Region, a custom area designed by the hacker, and retains the classic 8-bit visual style and top-down perspective of its base game.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, maintaining the Generation II selection. The difficulty is generally standard, comparable to the original Crystal, and is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it is built on the Generation II engine, so it does not include later additions like the Physical/Special split, the Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. It does inherit the day/night cycle and weekly event system from Crystal.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with original towns, routes, and a custom storyline.
  • An expanded Pokedex that includes all 251 Pokemon from Generations I and II, with altered encounter tables throughout Dreamland.
  • Several quality-of-life improvements from the base game, such as the ability to use Running Shoes indoors and the continuation of reusable TMs.

This hack provides a fresh adventure for players seeking a new journey within the familiar technical confines of the Game Boy Color era.
