About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Gold Sunset Horizons (fixed) is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Gold for the Game Boy Color. It is not an official release or a bootleg. The hack is set in the Johto region, retaining the original game's world and visual style, but with significant modifications to its roster and gameplay balance. The "fixed" designation typically indicates a version that has addressed bugs or balancing issues from an earlier release of the hack.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack alters the available Pokemon, replacing many of the original Johto and Kanto species with Pokemon from later generations, up to Generation IV. This expands the team-building options far beyond the GBC era. The starter Pokemon are changed from Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile to new choices, which often include Riolu, Gible, and Shinx. The game maintains the original Game Boy Color engine, so it does not include the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, or Mega Evolution. Its difficulty is generally higher than the base Gold, with adjusted trainer teams and levels, making it more challenging but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack. The core day/night cycle from the original games remains intact.
Key Features:
- Updated Pokemon Roster: Features Pokemon from Generations I through IV, replacing many of the original encounters in Johto and Kanto.
- Revised Gym Leader and Elite Four Teams: Trainers have updated teams that incorporate the new Pokemon roster, increasing the challenge.
- Bug Fixes and Quality-of-Life Tweaks: As a "fixed" version, it aims to resolve issues like scripting errors, evolution problems for new Pokemon, and gameplay glitches present in earlier iterations of the hack.
