About This Game

Pokemon Mystic (silver hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Mystic is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Game Boy Color game Pokémon Silver. It is set in the new region of Mystica, which replaces the original Johto and Kanto. The visual style retains the classic Gen 2 aesthetic but with new maps, sprites, and tiles.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three new starter Pokémon: Houndour (Fire), Phanpy (Ground), and Horsea (Water). Its difficulty is higher than the base game, featuring stronger Gym Leaders and wild Pokémon, but it is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack. It does not implement the Physical/Special split or add the Fairy type, as it remains on the Gen 2 engine. It does retain the original day/night cycle and adds new evolution methods for certain Pokémon.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region, Mystica, with eight new Gyms and an original storyline separate from Team Rocket.
  • An expanded Pokédex featuring over 200 Pokémon from Generations 1, 2, and 3, including evolutions like Steelix and Scizor that were not natively obtainable in the original Silver.
  • Quality-of-life improvements such as the ability to run indoors and the inclusion of the Vs. Seeker for rematching trainers.
The hack provides a fresh adventure for players familiar with the Gen 2 engine, focusing on new geography and a revised Pokémon roster.
