About This Game

Pokemon Prism : Summer 2010 Beta (gold hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Prism: Summer 2010 Beta is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon Gold for the Game Boy Color. It is an early, incomplete build of the larger Pokémon Prism project, which was later revived and completed. This beta version takes place in the new region of Naljo, built directly on the Gold engine, retaining its classic top-down pixel art style but with entirely new maps, tiles, and sprites.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a choice of three starter Pokémon: Cubone, Growlithe, and Horsea. It is built on the Generation II engine, so it lacks the Physical/Special split from Generation IV and does not include the Fairy type. Key mechanical changes from the base Gold include a completely new region and story, the introduction of several new moves, and the ability for certain Pokémon to learn moves from types they do not normally possess. The difficulty is moderate and follows traditional progression, though some areas in this beta may be unbalanced due to its unfinished state.

Key Features:

  • Original Naljo Region: Features eight new Gyms, a new Elite Four, and an original storyline separate from Johto and Kanto.
  • Expanded Pokémon Roster: Includes Pokémon from Generations I-III, with some new custom evolutions and forms, such as Larvitar being available early.
  • Beta-Specific Content: This build contains areas, events, and a progression path that differ from the final 2016 release of Pokémon Prism, offering a unique snapshot of the hack's development.
This early beta represents a significant and ambitious fan project that laid the groundwork for one of the most detailed Gold hacks ever created.
