About This Game

Pokemon Tanero (yellow hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Tanero is a ROM hack of Pokemon Yellow for the original Game Boy, not the Game Boy Color, though it can be played on the GBC hardware. It is set in the new region of Tanero, which replaces the familiar Kanto map. The visual style retains the original Game Boy's monochrome graphics but features completely new town, route, and dungeon designs.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of three starter Pokemon: Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur. It does not feature later-generation mechanics like the Physical/Special split or the Fairy type, staying true to the Generation I engine. The difficulty is moderately increased through tougher trainer teams and adjusted level curves, but it is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Key mechanical changes are limited to the new region layout and story.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with eight original Gyms and an Elite Four to conquer.
  • An original storyline that diverges from the Kanto narrative while maintaining the classic Pokemon journey structure.
  • The availability of all 151 original Kanto Pokemon within the new region's map.
This hack offers a fresh adventure for players seeking a new world built within the classic Generation I framework.
