About This Game

Pokemon Topaz (silver hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Topaz is a fan-made ROM hack of the Game Boy Color game Pokémon Crystal. It is set in the new Topaz Region, a landmass with a distinct visual style that expands upon the original game's tiles and color palette, offering a fresh world to explore while retaining the classic GBC aesthetic.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack features a new trio of starter Pokémon: Houndour (Fire), Larvitar (Rock/Ground), and Bagon (Dragon). Its difficulty is higher than the official Johto games, with stronger trainer teams and adjusted level curves, making it a more challenging experience that is not inherently designed as a Nuzlocke. It does not include the Physical/Special split or Fairy type, staying true to the Generation II mechanics, but it does implement the day/night cycle from its base game.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with original towns, routes, and a Pokémon League featuring eight new Gym Leaders.
  • An expanded Pokédex that includes many species from Generations I through III, all obtainable within the game's world.
  • Various quality-of-life improvements and script changes, including a more involved storyline and revised dialogue throughout the adventure.
This hack provides a substantial new adventure for players seeking a traditional Pokémon challenge on the Game Boy Color engine.
