About This Game

Pokemon Ultimate End Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Ultimate End is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed designed to run on Game Boy Advance hardware and emulators, not the Game Boy Color. It is set in the Kanto region, but with a drastically altered narrative and world state. The visual style uses the standard FireRed engine with some custom sprite work, presenting a post-apocalyptic version of Kanto.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game offers a choice of three starters: Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur. It is known for its very high difficulty, featuring stronger trainers and wild Pokémon from the outset, which makes it challenging for standard playthroughs and not particularly Nuzlocke-friendly without heavy grinding. It does not include the Physical/Special split from Generation IV or the Fairy type. Key mechanical changes are narrative rather than systemic, with the entire region's layout and available areas being altered by the game's catastrophic story event.

Key Features:

  • Apocalyptic Kanto Setting: The region has been ravaged, with familiar towns and routes destroyed or inaccessible, forcing a completely non-linear and exploration-heavy progression.
  • Altered Story and Roster: The narrative departs completely from the Team Rocket plot, focusing on survival. Many late-generation Pokémon are not available, limiting the dex primarily to species from Generations I-III.
  • High Difficulty Curve: Trainers have competitively built teams early on, and resource management is crucial due to limited healing opportunities and expensive items.
The hack is complete but is known for its brutal difficulty and some progression-halting bugs if the player does not follow the intended path.
