About This Game
Introduction: This is a ROM hack of the official Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition for the original Game Boy, modified to run with full color on the Game Boy Color hardware. It is not a new region or story hack; it is an enhancement patch for the 1998 game. The story remains set in Kanto, where you follow the anime-inspired journey starting with a Pikachu that follows you. The visual style applies the full GBC color palette to the original monochrome graphics.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The core mechanics are identical to the official Pokémon Yellow. Your starter is the mandatory Pikachu, and you can obtain the three Kanto starters—Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—from NPCs as in the original. The difficulty is the standard Gen I level. The hack does not introduce modern mechanics like the Physical/Special split, Fairy types, or a day/night cycle. Its primary mechanical purpose is to enable color display on the GBC, fixing the limited palette the official cartridge used.
Key Features:
- Full Game Boy Color Support: The hack enables the game to utilize the GBC's full color capabilities, going beyond the limited four-shade palette the official release used when played on a GBC.
- Preservation of Original Content: All story events, Pokémon availability, and the unique following Pikachu mechanics are kept intact, offering the authentic Yellow experience with a visual upgrade.
- Technical Patch Focus: Version 1.2 likely addresses bugs or color application issues from earlier versions of the colorization patch, focusing on stability and accurate color representation rather than new gameplay content.
