About This Game

Pokemon Light Platinum Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Light Platinum is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon Ruby for the Game Boy Advance, created by WesleyFG. It is set across two new regions: the primary Zhery Region and the later Laurel Region. The visual style uses edited tiles and sprites from the Generation III and IV games, creating a more modern look than the original Ruby base.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of the Sinnoh starters: Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. Its difficulty is moderate, featuring higher-level Gym Leaders and a challenging post-game, but it is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack. It retains the original Ruby engine, meaning it lacks the Physical/Special split and the Fairy type. Key mechanical changes include the addition of a day/night cycle and the ability to use Running Shoes indoors.

Key Features:

  • Dual-Region Adventure, allowing travel to the Zhery and Laurel regions with a total of 16 Gyms.
  • Pokémon from Generations I-IV are available to catch, including many Legendary Pokémon as part of the storyline.
  • A unique post-game "World Championship" event where you battle the Champions from official games.

The hack is known for its ambitious scope and extensive content, though it can have occasional scripting bugs and the English translation has some grammatical errors. It remains a foundational and influential title in the history of Pokémon ROM hacking.
