About This Game

Pokemon SkyLine (Beta 1) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon SkyLine (Beta 1) is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. The game is set in the new Skyline Region, a mountainous area with a focus on verticality and exploration. Visually, it uses the standard Generation III engine with some custom tiles and sprites to create its unique setting.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Chimchar, Piplup, and Turtwig, imported from Generation IV. Its difficulty is notably higher than the base game, featuring stronger trainer AI and adjusted level curves, making it a solid choice for players seeking a challenge. Mechanically, it implements the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, which fundamentally changes move categorization and battle strategy. The Fairy type is not present in this beta.

Key Features:

  • A completely new region with original towns, routes, and a Sky Pillar-inspired central landmark.
  • An expanded Pokedex featuring Pokemon from Generations I through IV, allowing for diverse team building not possible in standard FireRed.
  • The inclusion of mechanics like reusable TMs and the ability to use Running Shoes indoors for improved quality of life.

As an early beta, players should expect some unfinished areas, potential scripting bugs, and a story that may not be complete. The game's primary appeal lies in its challenging new region and the expanded roster of available Pokemon within the classic GBA framework.
