About This Game

Oak's Dream (pokemon blue hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Oak's Dream is a ROM hack of the original Pokémon Blue for the Game Boy. The hack is set in the familiar Kanto region but presents an alternate storyline where the player character is Professor Oak's grandchild, tasked with a new journey. The visual style remains faithful to the 8-bit graphics of the base game, with some modified sprites and maps.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of the three classic Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. It does not implement modern mechanical overhauls like the Physical/Special split or the Fairy type, staying true to Generation I mechanics. The difficulty is moderately increased compared to the original, with higher-leveled wild Pokémon and trainers, making it more challenging but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack. Key changes include the removal of certain evolution trade requirements, allowing Pokémon like Golem and Alakazam to evolve via level-up.

Key Features:

  • An alternate narrative where Professor Oak is a central figure, with new dialogue and story events.
  • Increased difficulty through stronger Gym Leaders and Elite Four teams, along with a higher level curve.
  • Access to all 151 original Pokémon within the single-player campaign, including ones normally version-exclusive or trade-only.
The hack is a complete, playable experience that offers a fresh take on the classic Kanto journey with a revised story and greater challenge.
