About This Game

Pokemon 151 (red hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon 151 (Red Hack) is a fan-made ROM hack of the original Pokémon Red Version for the Game Boy. It is not an official title or a bootleg. The hack retains the Kanto region and the classic 8-bit visual style of the base game, but its primary goal is to make all 151 original Pokémon obtainable in a single playthrough without the need for trading.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The core mechanics are identical to Generation I. This means there is no Physical/Special split, no Fairy type, and the game retains the original battle mechanics and stat system. You begin with the standard choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The difficulty is the same as the original Red Version, making it a standard experience rather than a challenge hack. Its main mechanical change is the alteration of wild encounters and item locations to allow players to catch every species.

Key Features:

  • Complete Kanto Dex in One Game: All 151 Pokémon, including Mew and the traditional trade evolutions like Gengar and Alakazam, can be caught or evolved without linking cables.
  • Revised Wild Encounters: Pokémon that were originally version-exclusive or unobtainable, such as Ekans, Meowth, and the legendary birds, are placed in the wild or given as gifts.
  • Faithful to Original Design: Beyond the Pokédex completion, the game does not add new regions, stories, or characters. It is a quality-of-life modification focused solely on collection.

This hack is a straightforward solution for players who want to experience the original Kanto journey with the ability to complete the Pokédex solo on original hardware or an emulator.
