About This Game

Pokemon Blue Before Elite Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Blue Before Elite is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon FireRed game. It is not an official title or a bootleg. The hack takes place in the familiar Kanto region, but the story is set before the events of the original games, focusing on the early days of the region's Pokemon League. It uses the enhanced visual and audio style of the Game Boy Advance FireRed engine, not the original Game Boy.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game retains the classic Kanto starter trio: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Its difficulty is considered standard, similar to the base FireRed game, and is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it does not introduce the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, nor does it add the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. It operates on the Generation III engine, so key features include abilities, natures, and a day/night cycle, which were absent from the original Game Boy titles.

Key Features:

  • A prequel narrative exploring Kanto's history, with a younger version of Professor Oak and the founding of the Elite Four.
  • An expanded post-game storyline that delves into the origins of Team Rocket and their rise to power.
  • Access to all 386 Pokemon from Generations I through III, including evolutions like Scizor and Kingdra, which were not native to the original Kanto games.

This hack offers a fresh perspective on a classic region by exploring its untold backstory.
