About This Game
Introduction: Pokemon Meowth (Blue Hack) is a fan-made ROM hack of the original Pokemon Blue for the Game Boy. It is not an official release or a bootleg. The hack takes place in the familiar Kanto region but with a significant narrative twist centered on the Pokemon Meowth. Visually, it retains the original Game Boy's monochrome graphics and tile-based aesthetic, with edits to sprites and text to fit its new theme.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of three starter Pokemon: Meowth, Growlithe, and Poliwag, replacing the traditional Kanto starters. As a hack of the first-generation engine, it lacks the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, and day/night cycle. The difficulty is comparable to the original Blue, making it accessible but not specifically designed for challenges like Nuzlocke runs. Key mechanical changes are limited to the roster and story; core systems like battle mechanics and TM usage remain unchanged from the base game.
Key Features:
- Meowth-Centric Story: The narrative is rewritten to feature Team Rocket's Meowth as a central character, altering dialogues and events to create a new perspective on the Kanto journey.
- Altered Pokemon Roster: Many wild Pokemon encounters and trainer teams are changed, featuring different species than the original Blue version, though the total number of available Pokemon remains 151.
- Edited In-Game Text and Sprites: To support its theme, the hack includes modified dialogue throughout the game and custom sprite work for key characters and the new starter Pokemon.
