About This Game

Pokemon Pink (red hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Pink is a fan-made ROM hack of the original Pokémon Red for the Game Boy. It is not an official release. The hack primarily alters the player character's sprite to the female protagonist from the manga, Yellow, and recolors many elements to a pink palette, but it does not create a new region or story. The game is set in the standard Kanto region with the original plot.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay is identical to Pokémon Red. You choose from the original starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The difficulty is the same as the base game and is not designed with Nuzlocke challenges in mind. There are no mechanical changes such as the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, or a day/night cycle. It runs on the Generation I engine with all its original limitations and bugs.

Key Features:

  • Visual Recolor: The most prominent change is a comprehensive pink and purple color scheme applied to the world, characters, and many Pokémon sprites.
  • Player Character Swap: The male player character is replaced with a sprite based on Yellow, the female protagonist from the Pokémon Adventures manga.
  • Minimal Gameplay Alteration: Beyond the visual changes, this is essentially Pokémon Red. No new areas, Pokémon, or story events are added, making it a simple cosmetic hack.
This hack is a straightforward graphical modification that offers a different aesthetic for a replay of the classic Kanto journey.
