About This Game

Pokemon Pink (v1.1) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Pink (v1.1) is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Red for the Game Boy. It is not an official release. The hack reimagines the Kanto region from the perspective of a female protagonist, with a visual style that recolors many sprites and tiles to feature pink and purple hues, directly inspired by the female player character from the Pokemon Yellow anime and manga.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game uses the standard Pokemon Red engine, so it lacks the Physical/Special split, Fairy type, and day/night cycle. The starter choice is altered; instead of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, you begin with Clefairy. The difficulty is identical to the base game, though the altered Pokemon availability can change early-game strategy. It is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge but can be played as one. Key mechanical changes are purely aesthetic, involving sprite swaps and palette changes for many Pokemon and NPCs to fit the "Pink" theme.

Key Features:

  • Female Protagonist and Themed Aesthetics: You play as the female trainer, with extensive recoloring of the world, characters, and Pokemon to emphasize pinks and purples.
  • Altered Pokemon Availability: The roster is changed to feature Pokemon considered more "cute" or thematically fitting, such as Clefairy, Jigglypuff, and Porygon, often replacing standard encounters.
  • Direct ROM Hack of Pokemon Red: As a hack of the original Game Boy title, it retains all the classic mechanics and limitations, including the original 151 Pokemon roster (with swaps) and the pre-Generation II type chart.
This hack is a straightforward cosmetic and minor encounter modification for players seeking a different visual flavor in the original Kanto journey.
