About This Game

Pokemon Revolution (red hack) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Revolution is a ROM hack of the Game Boy Advance game Pokemon FireRed, designed to be playable on original Game Boy hardware through a demake process. It is not an official Nintendo product. The game takes place in the Kanto region, but with a completely rewritten narrative set after a catastrophic war. The visual style is a faithful black-and-white adaptation of the original FireRed's maps and sprites to the Game Boy's 4-shade monochrome palette.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the classic Kanto starter Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Its difficulty is significantly increased, featuring higher-leveled trainers, smarter AI, and revised teams, making it challenging but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke. It does not include the Physical/Special split or the Fairy type, staying true to Generation III mechanics. A key mechanical change is the implementation of a day and night cycle, which affects wild Pokemon encounters and certain events.

Key Features:

  • A completely original post-war story with new characters, dialogue, and a more mature tone compared to the original Kanto journey.
  • The inclusion of all 386 Pokemon from Generations I through III, with many non-Kanto species available in the wild, significantly expanding team-building options.
  • Quality-of-life improvements ported to the Game Boy engine, such as reusable TMs and the ability to use Running Shoes indoors.

This hack is a notable technical achievement for bringing a modernized Kanto experience to the classic Game Boy system.
