About This Game

Pokemon - Black 2 (Patched-and-EXP-Fixed) Box Art

Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS title, Pokémon Black 2, with a community-created patch applied. The patch primarily fixes a known experience point scaling bug from the original release. It is a direct sequel to Pokémon Black, set two years later in the Unova region, which features new towns and altered routes alongside familiar locations. The game uses the same detailed, animated sprite-based visual style as Black and White.

Gameplay & Mechanics: You begin by choosing one of three starters: Tepig, Snivy, or Oshawott. The game is considered one of the more challenging official entries, with well-built Gym Leader and rival teams, making it popular for Nuzlocke runs. It retains the core Generation V mechanics, including the Physical/Special split from Generation IV. The Fairy type and Mega Evolution are not present, as they were introduced in Generation VI. A robust day/night cycle and season system affect wild encounters and overworld appearance.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Unova Region: The map is significantly changed from the first games, with new cities like Virbank City and Aspertia City, and previously blocked areas like Route 4 and Route 17 now fully accessible.
  • Pokéstar Studios and Join Avenue: These are major new side activities; Pokéstar Studios lets you make movies with your Pokémon, while Join Avenue is a player-managed street that grows through StreetPass or in-game NPCs.
  • World Tournament: A major post-game facility where you can battle Gym Leaders and Champions from all previous regions, offering considerable challenge and fan service.
The applied patch ensures the experience gain formula works as intended, preventing over-leveling issues present in the original cartridge.
