About This Game

Pokemon - SoulSilver Version Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon SoulSilver Version is an official Nintendo DS game, a 2009 remake of the 1999 Game Boy Color title Pokémon Silver. It is set in the Johto region, with the player's journey later expanding into the Kanto region from the original games. The visual style updates the classic 2D sprites with detailed, animated character models and environments, while retaining the top-down perspective of the core series at the time.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starter Pokémon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. The game incorporates the Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV, fundamentally changing move categorization and battle strategy. A real-time day/night cycle returns, affecting Pokémon encounters and certain events. Its difficulty is considered moderate, with a significant post-game challenge, and its structure is popular for Nuzlocke runs due to the large pool of available Pokémon and two-region map.

Key Features:

  • The Pokéwalker accessory, a pedometer that allowed players to transfer a Pokémon to a physical device, earn experience through walking, and find items and wild Pokémon.
  • Your lead Pokémon follows behind you on the overworld map, a feature first introduced in Pokémon Yellow and brought back exclusively in these remakes.
  • A vastly expanded post-game including the entire Kanto region to explore, the Battle Frontier challenge facility, and the ability to rematch all sixteen Gym Leaders.
This remake is celebrated for its faithful expansion of the original content and its robust set of features.
